An event fit for a Queen!
We couldn’t let this month pass without a mention of the forthcoming Queen’s Platinum Jubilee that takes places later this week. Did you know the Queen is the first British Monarch to have reached the 70th year on the throne? And what a way to celebrate with a 4-day bank holiday.
It’s a momentous occasion and wonderful to see how events and parties over the special bank holiday weekend are bringing together teams, businesses, and communities.
What is also does is give a welcome boost to the events and hospitality sectors who have been impacted so much over recent times.
When planning for big events on the social calendar whether it’s a company celebration, awards evenings, team event or community celebration the same principles should be applied to get your event underway and delivered as an event to remember.
5 key principles
Event planning is like a jigsaw puzzle, all the pieces need to come together to deliver the bigger picture. Some ‘pieces’ require specialist skills such as media and digital content and/or a dedicated skilled resource, typically external expertise.
Connect your internal team and external suppliers to have a pre-event brainstorm of the objectives and unleash the possible. This is an ideal chance to lock in the date (and have a back-up) to narrow down venue availability. Enough lead time for event planning is crucial.
Agree roles and responsibilities and fortnightly touchpoints to formalise plans, sign off on outstanding plans and share developments. Let your creative team lead this.
Co-ordinate venue availability and negotiables – guest speaker availability, band and entertainment for example. To get all the jigsaw pieces in place you’ll need to establish essentials and negotiable elements.
Incorporate various creative elements throughout your event to engage at all levels. Think branding, theming, music, amazing AV, social media, photography and videos.
