It has been an incredibly busy few weeks at LemonZest for the whole team. Some of the highlights of the past few weeks include delivering awards evenings in Birmingham, hosting a customer charity dinner, on-location shoots, studio video edits, conference planning with customers and venue visits.

What is has confirmed to me is that I love my job. It might sound corny, but I really do and to have been detached from the events world over the last 18 months it’s important to me to embrace the love I have for what I do.

I took part in a LinkedIn poll recently that asked ‘do you feel it is important to love your job’? People spend a lot of time at work, and while some may consider their job a 'dream', others maybe just in it for convenience — or the cash. Many will fall somewhere in between.

The poll received over 9,000 votes and 47% said Yes, passion matters. The comments were insightful and it struck a chord with me that the work you do AND the people you work with can make such a difference to loving the job you do.

We consider ourselves very lucky at LZ in that we have a solid team who complement one another, effectively making us better to deliver strong, live events.

Being back together, on-site, at venues and in the office has given us a real boost, interacting and bouncing ideas off one another, dealing with on-site challenges and working together to deliver creative productions and memorable events. It made me realise just how much of this was quashed while we worked from home with the uncertainty of what was ahead. Sure, we had zoom calls and plenty of fun at the end of the laptop but there is nothing like being in the presence of great people, using your skills, being creative to get a buzz out of doing something that you love.

I sounded out a few of the team to think about their job and what they love - you should try it as it’s quite informative. Celine Orgill, Event Coordinator at Lemon Zest has been part of the team for some years. She echoes my thoughts of ‘love your job’. Here is what she has to say…..“Work fills a large part of your life and I’ve found something I am passionate about. I believe that passion enables me to do great work for the customers we work with but also satisfies me to deliver, improve, keep motivated and appreciate my time out of work”. Celine has kept her approach to work fresh, mastered the areas she loves and got better and better, she has talked to me about the areas she wants support with and on the back of it is working towards a promotion that will give her greater scope, flexibility and opportunity.

If we all take a breather to think about what we love about our jobs it gives us a focus to do more of what we love – and change more of what we don’t. In some cases, I guess it may give some the prompt they need to make some changes to find something they are passionate about – others I am sure will be quite happy to work within the parameters of their role to channel their personal life wants and needs.

I hope you have enjoyed this insight into what motivates me, what I enjoy about my job and my little brag 😊 about the amazing team that surrounds me.

I’d love to hear what you think about if it is important to love your job and what your drivers are for getting up and out every day.
